Has anyone dealt with clients that ghost them AFTER they paid? I have two clients that are ridiculous. They don’t communicate for weeks/months at a time and when I finally hear from then they are like “Sorry, been busy.” I’ve finally changed my contract to include a “Project Abandonment” clause which frankly I’m nervous is going to worry new clients because it basically says “if you fail to return communications for more than 2 weeks, I own your site and you can pay me hourly for any work left on it.”
I’m not sure what else to do. If it was one person, I’d think “ok she’s weird” but it’s two of them now and they are paid up! The sites are ready to go! They can’t BOTH be FBI fugitives right? haha.
Hi Jen! That is so strange! A clause seems the way to go, and shouldn’t be an issue for those who aren’t planning to go MIA. I wonder if anyone else has run into any clients that turn into Casper the friendly ghost
I had the opposite lol - I just had a client who wanted a short turn around which I delivered on, she paid me a deposit. When the time came for her review and final payment she kept delaying me and delaying me (this is my full time job) so I finally said that I would revert the site history to before my work until she found the time to review and pay me (we were now 5 days past due date and completion) and when she was ready she could review my work (it’s still all saved in site history so she isn’t at risk with her deposit paid ) She threw an absolute hissy fit on me, told me I was extremely rude and she wasn’t impressed, promptly removed me from the site and is now ignoring me. I put A TONNE of work into her project, she kept messaging me asking when I would be done less than 24 hours into the project, nightmare. This is the first time this has happened to me and now I have to come up with some “protection” for me while not worrying a new client about some clause that one person caused.
It haunts me daily, her site looks amazing and she just blew me off like a spoiled child in my opinion and now has my work for her benefit and half the price.
