Adding a page link to content manager

Probably a stupid question, but for the life of me I can’t see how to easily add a link to an existing page on my website in the content manager. I could manually add the full URLs but as the site isn’t live yet I would have to go in later and update them manually. Is there an easier way?

Can you be a bit more specific about your situation? Are you talking about a URL field? Are you talking about placing a link within the text of a text field? What’s the purpose of the link – is it to a dynamic page? Is it just a link to a random page?

Depending on what you are doing, there are specific mechanisms available to assign links in a way that will survive conversion of your site to a live, premium site. But there are also limitations.

Thanks Jim. Screenshots below may illustrate the problem better. The grid is set up as a repeater, this will be visible on several pages and may update frequently, so setting it up as a data set seemed appropriate. As you can see however there is no option to link the ‘learn more’ buttons directly to the relevant site pages (as you would with a menu for example). There’s only an option to add full URLs, which I’ve done and it works fine, but it will add a level of complexity once the client takes over updating the site. It’s not the end of the world but thought it worth asking if there’s a simpler solution I’m not seeing…

Hi, @azajohns78 .

I think you are straddling two options where the link can be automatically updated – that is, it would work the way you want in either of those two options – but, because you’re straddling them, it won’t work for you.

The two options:

First, if you were using dynamic pages (and I assume you are not), the correct link would be provided automatically. (Am I correct? You’re not using dynamic pages and you’ve made a conscious decision that they won’t work for you?)

Second, if you were hand-creating each repeater item (rather than basing it on a dataset), you’d be able to define a button that used a link that the system would automatically maintain for you.

So, if you’re basing your repeater on a dataset but not using dynamic pages, yes, you’re right, you’ll have to maintain the links manually.

It looks nice, by the way!

Thanks Jim, yes I opted against dynamic pages as the links could potentially go to any page on the site down the track. All good though, its not a major issue, just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something.
