Anyone worked with 123-reg before?

A client pre-bought their domain before bringing me on board, and 123-reg are making it borderline impossible to connect the domain now that the site is almost done.
Anyone know how to deal with them? I’m really unimpressed by how unprofessional they are.

Some domain providers are more finicky than others :frowning: You could try transferring the domain over to Wix instead.

Thanks for your reply! You can certainly say that again. I’ve tried transferring, but 123 tell me that the password I’m using (despite already being logged in) is incorrect for changing the lock option, so I can’t transfer it! To change the lock password as well, they asked me for the client’s driving licence number, which is ludicrous.

Wow! I’ve never heard of that before. Maybe you should try calling them instead?

@sheylar I will. Thing is, with an online service, I’d expect the online operations side of things to be pretty smooth, but they’re almost deliberately difficult! I tried accessing live chat, but the option to use it as a paying member doesn’t exist, and they refuse to let you see any details when you use the non-account holder live chat option. It’s like they’ve run their entire system on holding on to your domain.

I have had a few clients with 123 reg. I have not had thus issue before. If you can login can you change the named servers?

I also had an issue with the security cert. I found unattaching the domain name and then adding it back on seemed to work. Hope this is helpful

My problem comes right at the start; I can’t even get to the stage. When I follow Wix directions to change the DNS, just to attach the domain, it simply says “error” and lets me go no further. I’ve even gone in to change the other elements, left them along, tried them in combo… not much works.

So you have login to 123 reg and when you add the servers it says error or before. I would try a call or get the client to call and get them to give permission to speak to you. Sounds like a right ole pain sorry, not being much help here :frowning:

It’s fine, I’m just glad there’s some interest in the issue. I left them a review on Trustpilot which got a very swit reply, so I’ll no doubt be sorted out soon. The portal can’t even reset the DNS to 123-reg defaults without reporting the error!

If they are not playing ball I think you can speak to nominet and there is a form you can do to transfer it out. That might be your best bet? Are you UK based might be a different body elsewhere? When I have had difficu
lties before I have found nominet quite help I think there is a £20 fee but might be easier than the hassle
