Can I set up a dataset with a specific blog article (always the second for example)?

Hi,
I am trying to create a slideshow for a client, that will feature their blog’s 6 most recent articles that are marked as feature articles.
So far so good, but the slideshow gallery isn’t allowing for the design features that we want, and the repeater slider is terrible in terms of design (the scrollbar is unattractive, I wish there were arrows left and right instead). So I have to design a slideshow from scratch using some code.
My plan is to assign each “slide” to a separate dataset as such:
Slide 1 - attached to the dataset that show the most recent feature article (easy)
Slide 2- attached to a dataset that is set to show the second most recent feature article. — Is this possible?
Slide 3- attached to a dataset that is set to show the third most recent feature article, and so on…

Is it possible to set up a dataset that will feature the second most recent feature blog article?
