I’d like to create to create my own custom gallery grid that I can use with a dataset. Is that possible? I want a gallery grid with a thumb at the top and 2 line below the the thumb.

Is this the type of gallery you are looking for?
This is actually the Grid (framed) gallery set with border 0. The gallery displays both the title and description fields, allowing you to set the margins and fonts for both fields.
You can connect this gallery to the database, including the two fields and the link (when clicking on an image)

By default, the description is empty. Try and enter values there and see if it works.
Just to verify, this is my setup -
The gallery I have used (the gallery with the hint over it)
The connect panel (I have connected the link because I wanted another text field, and that is the only one I had in my collection)

Just note that a gallery accepts only values for length up to 100 for both the title and description fields.
