Drop down animation

Hi,

We are trying to create an animation on our dropdown menu when a user is to mouse over (similar to this site here https://www.htcambridge.org.uk))

I understand that I would need to achieve this by code, however when I tried adding a fade effect to #horizontalMenu1 it makes the whole navigation disappear.

How do I make sure that it affects the drop down elements?
