Question:
Hello,
I am trying to customize the design and layout of a very simple email capture form. For some reason the normal customization options I am used to are not visible - can anyone help me understand why?
See the attached screenshot. Normally when you select the form you can edit the design of each field, re-size them etc. You also get a range of editing options in the toolbar but for some reason none of this is available.
You do get some customization functionality when you click on settings; but its a different UX than what I used to edit forms a couple weeks ago and far less powerful as well. In fact when I go to the site I built 2 weeks ago, I can edit the existing form there as normal but when I add a new form I have the same issue regarding the lack of customization functionality - very strange.
Thanks
Hey @andonigeorgiou!
You’re right, there was a change to forms that happened a short while ago that is designed to make forms more intuitive.
The new form builder makes it easier to build forms, allows you to use the same form in multiple places across a site, includes the ability to create multistep forms and allows you to style the inputs “globally” making designing them easier.
I’d love to hear which features are missing for you, and I’ll be happy to pass the feedback on
Hi @noahlovell thanks for the reply and for clarifying that.
I can’t speak too much to the forms functionality you mentioned above as I don’t really use that - its just a super simple email capture in this case.
Feedback would be on the design/styling customization, both the UX and the functionality - for me it seems far less intuitive and now less customizable.
Having to conduct some form edits in the near full screen pop up editor (when you click edit form) while having some other design related edits available in the inspector (when you click settings) is just a bit confusing…pretty much everything on Editor X is editable in the editor/page/component itself and the inspector panel. I cant change the height of the form fields or the CTA. Its more difficult to arrange things in a grid format now as well, for example to simply place the CTA to the right of the form field rather than below. It took ages to realize you can sort of do this in the big edit form panel, but its not sign posted in any way and nor does it work too well. See the screenshots below, if you remove a title theres now random space above the form field. If you put the CTA next to the form field you now get a weird alignment issue with the success message below the CTA which you cannot change.

I like being able to use them right from the dashboard. And I like being able to reuse the same form on multiple pages. I like the rules and pages. I like most of the additions. But ya actually designing the forms has taken a hit.
I really liked the way we could customize the form with grids and such and change the design right from the inspector panel like most other elements in Editor X. It had it’s issues but overall it’d be nice if we could just design everything from the inspector panel.
I was able to get the form mostly the way I wanted after I realized designing was in “settings” (which took a little bit for me to realize), but the only thing that you can’t seem to do is change the sizing of the fields and buttons which means the form can’t necessarily match the design aesthetic of the rest of the site.
And ya, took me a little while to figure out that I could even move the elements around.
Would like to see the ability to change the height and sizing of fields and buttons.

I’m wondering about this same question. It seems the layout is locked into a vertical stack and there is no option for a simple side by side for newsletter sign up, or option to update the button font to coordinate with the global design. This seems like an area that would need some flexibility - looking forward to an update.
Hey @Lynda_Bostrom!
Using the handles on the inputs (the little circles), you should be able to make them smaller - maybe half the width, and then drag them side by side, rather than top to bottom.
I believe you can have up to 4 inputs across
Hey Noah, thanks for your reply. I’m not seeing handles on the inputs, the form comes as-is within a container.
Through the add elements “+” navigation, there are only a two options for preset submission designs. There is no option for a simple email input and submit button side by side, and no way to edit the preset design. There are videos from the original Wix site builder that show a much more robust collection of layouts for a subscribe form, but these don’t appear in Wix Studio.
I’m not sure how to navigate the the conflicting information, is there another option for adding a subscribe form?
