Galleries are too limited, slide shows don't connect to content collections, next steps?

I am trying to make a dynamic page connected to a content collections. On the dynamic page, I need to be able to add pictures WITH a description. Some of the images are figures/graphs that I need a description for, and sometimes it has to be a few sentences. The amount of pictures would change from page to page, some I have 10 pictures and descriptions for, some I only have one.

I first ran into an issue when I was just trying to insert a photo/ place for a photo on a dynamic page but I couldn’t find a way to do so that would allow me to change the image for each page of the dynamic page variations. I could insert and image, I couldn’t find a way to connect it to a content collection. It would have to be the same images for all of the dynamic pages of the same kind.

I learned about media galleries and I thought this would fix my problems, but none of the galleries will work for me. Like I said, I need a description option of min 150 characters, and while some galleries allow for descriptions, the length of those descriptions is very limited. Additionally, the images would be automatically resized in an awkward manner that distorted the images and made the whole page look very unprofessional.

I found this page: https://support.wix.com/en/article/wix-editor-resizing-images , and learned that SOME galleries allow you to choose between “auto fill” and “keep proportions”. And when I found a gallery that could do this, my pictures looked nice and appropriately sized again! Yay! But that gallery wouldn’t allow me to have a description :frowning:

I found this page: https://support.wix.com/en/article/wix-editor-gallery-characteristics , and was able to see that the characteristics of the media galleries! Yay! There is only one gallery type(Animated Slide) that allowed for resizing image options AND a title/ description, and I thought that would work! But even though there is a ton of space in the box/ slide show, the description barely showed the first part of my description, and I can’t see any option of changing the length of text displayed :frowning:

I was reading through other forum questions, and someone with Corvid recommended using a slideshow instead. I tried this, but as far as I know there isn’t any way to connect a slideshow to a content collection? Correct me if I am mistaken… Are there certain slideshows that allow connection to a content collection? Similar to the galleries, do all slideshows each have different properties? The forum discussion I was looking at is a few years old, and another Corvid employee said they were working on a new feature that would allow this… has there been any feature development like this that anyone is aware of?

On yet another forum by Corvid I saw someone recommend to make a second content collection for the images/titles/descriptions to be put into the slide show, using an identifies from the original content collection at a primary key to connect the two. Considering I still don’t understand how to link a slideshow to a content collection, this wasn’t helpful to me, but maybe it will give someone else an idea of how to solve the problem?

I have been working on this minute issue for a few days now, and I’m not making any progress. Hoping that one of you fine people know a solution! Or even better, someone can point out that I am overlooking something that would make for an easy fix!

Thanks in advance!

Hey Annika,

Unfortunately it is not possible to connect slideshows to a database collection.

You should check out this post for a great workaround on how to build your own slideshow and connect it to your database.

Hope this helps!
