New HMRC rules are coming into force in December which means it will no longer be practical for me to sell items into Northern Ireland due to the new rules.

Currently my shipping options are United Kingdom.

Under these new rules I need to be able to select just England, Scotland and Wales.

I see nothing from Wix indicating that they are making changes to accommodate these new HMRC rules.

I now realise that the option to exclude Northern Ireland is already there. So well done Wix!

We’ve recently removed NI from our domestic shipping category but it’s causing problems with the express checkouts. Essentially, Apple Pay and PayPal are only passing back “UK” and Wix now requires more information on the region to know what shipping options are available.

It results in a weird user experience. The payment appears to be successful but then an additional page appears asking for the region (England, Scotland or Wales) to be selected. This is causing confusion and orders are being abandoned.

I’ve raised this as an issue but there is no resolution yet. The options are:

  1. Live with it and try to educate customers
  2. Remove the express checkout options
  3. Keep NI in the shipping category and operate illegally

None of which are particularly appealing!
