How can I set up private chats between site mebers that I can monitor if needed?

Just wondering if there is a way to allow site members to chat and discuss work with one another, a little like eBay, where no one else can see their chat, but I would be able to intervene if a problem occurs. I saw a similar post the other day, but I have little knowledge of coding and am not entirely sure where to start.

I am going to categorise the 2 people in the exchange, buyer and seller. A seller will be able to list an item that they can sell and then a buyer can press a button on the repeator and chat with the seller.
