After I realised it actually works on Chrome of my home windows 7 laptop, but doesn’t work on Chrome of my work Laptop (also windows 7), did some further investigation and I think I found out why… drum rolls, please… I should get a bounty award for this…
Back in end of Feb I raised this issue about Wix Support Forum always shows “under maintenance” due to “third party cookies” been blocked (which is still not fixed yet!), see https://www.wix.com/code/home/forum/questions-answers/why-wixcode-forum-always-shows-under-maintenance-in-chrome
This “reference field” problem is caused by the same reason!!! “Block 3rd party cookies” setting in Chrome!!!
Tried on another Windows 7 machine and was able to reproduce the problem.
As shown below, if enable “blocked 3rd party cookies”, when right click on any field, the last part only has 2 options “Managed Properties” and “Move to Trash”
If tried to change the field type, there are only 8 options, no “Reference”.
Then with “block 3rd party cookies” disabled on the same chrome/website, as highlighted in red, extra “Set as Primary field” option is available in the middle.
And when tried to change field type, we now have 9 options, with “Reference” shown at the top. The last one “Document” was accidentally chopped off - sorry…
As below, my work laptop has the “Block third-party cookies” settings enabled in chrome and enforced by Windows AD group policy - which means I don’t have the access to change it… Damn, I can’t use my work laptop for my WIX development then…
So Wix guys, I know you always did a great job in fixing problem and issues. However this one definitely should get a lot more attention and higher priority. Because lots of your corporate users who unfortunately have the “block third-party cookies” enforced at work like me will either think that (1) your Wix Code Forum is always under maintenance, and/or (2) your “reference field” creation thing doesn’t work…
Please fix this asap or provide some alternative solution/work around…
Note: I would also strongly recommend to (1) update your “under maintenance” message to remind user to check if “block 3rd party” setting was enabled in browser, and (2) update the info on your “How to create a reference field” page Adding a Reference Field to a Database Collection | Help Center | Wix.com to check the same thing if can’t see the “Reference” field type.
