Hi all:
I am NOT a coder. I hired a coder to help me do some things my dad wanted for his 60th high school reunion website. The coder did the javascript, and at first all went well. Then, it didn’t. And he had moved on.
Should I post the specific questions that I have here? Or should I just post this as an RFP for a javascript coder to rewrite or correct the problem?
In short, what was supposed to happen was:
*people logged in
*they filled in blanks on Personal Profiles to tell each other what they’d been doing for the last 60 years
*the list of who had filled out the Personal Profiles became clickable so that you could see your classmates’ profiles and their answers, but you could change and edit only yours.
And most of the time, this is exactly what happened.
But occasionally and apparently randomly, someone would log in, and the code would overwrite an existing Profile with the new person’s answers. We were losing people’s well- thought-out responses, and we were pissing them off, so we had to close down the login for the site.
However. The reunion is over and the dust has now settled; and there is a lot of good information still in the database remaining. Plus, now that people have had their reunion and have seen each other, there is a great deal of interest in using this feature and sharing their stories.
And I don’t know how to do that without another coder and without potentially losing what we already have.
Help me, all you Obi-Wan Kenobis out there! You’re our only hope.
