IDE/Editor to Truely Edit Code?

Hello,

From looking around, I fear my question is already answered, but maybe I missed something: is there a way to directly edit the site’s code (rather than only adding something)?

I see the IDE/Studio and code functionality, which is great, but it appears to stop short of being actually useful - that is, get in the site and edit code.

I’m a web coder for years and when a client asks for a change, it’d be far more efficient for me to open up the code and make some quick changes, rather than wading through the UI editor. The editor is great, but for those who can code, not being able to, is tough - like not having a command line.

I’ve looked at the github support and adding modules, data, etc. and that’s all great, but when I opened up the various IDEs, everything was basically blank! So what would be the point?

Generically “adding custom code” in places, without surrounding code is practically useless, since it’s essentially driving blind.

I hope I’m wrong (or this changes) because it’s really a great platform. I’d even look to replace WordPress with it, but not being able to edit code is prohibitive.

Everything is in place (github/IDE/VSCode), just open the gate please!

Thanks,

Hans
