can anyone tell me how I can get a holder such as a grid section to conform to the shape and size of an image rather than cropping it? Thank you

You could simply make the grid section the same size and ratio of the image, but it would need to be just that image in one grid. Not sure why would want to do that. I assuming that another section of your grid holds other elements and cropping your image when playing around with screen size.
Perhaps share your issue and provide a link to the work as a reference?
