Incredibly slow product page and the consequence of fixing it!

I’m having trouble with
Our product page takes 5 to 8 seconds to load! The old Editor site was fast! Not image issue. No one at Wix knew why! Eventually I deleted Wix Stores and re-added. This fixed the speed issue. The page was fast to load. However, 2 things happened. Stores created a new product page. product-page-1. Not a show stopper but a redirect was created. Could not change back to product-page in SEO. And, more significantly, the product page could not be fully editied. Elements werte no longer draggable and the additioner infor sections could not be edited in terms of format. Please help!

Working in
Wix Studio Editor, with Wix Stors

What I’m trying to do
Make the site fast again … but, be able to fully edit the product page. Need to delete and re-add Wix Stores without new page redirect and lack of editing.

What I’ve tried so far
Delete Stores. Re-add. Fixes speed. Breaks full editing.

Hey Phil, a few separate things going on here.

Redirect + URL slug: once Stores is deleted the old product-page URL is gone for good, so re-adding the app builds a brand new page (hence product-page-1). You can usually reclaim the old slug, but not from the new page’s own SEO field if Wix thinks the old one is still taken, it just appends -1. Go to Pages panel, right-click the new product page, SEO settings, URL & Social Share, and type the exact old slug back in manually. If it still refuses, that’s usually Wix’s cache still holding the deleted page, it clears after a day or two.

Locked, non-draggable elements: that’s expected, not a bug. Stores product pages run on a repeater-based dynamic template, so the price, add to cart and info sections are app-bound elements you can only restyle through the small settings icon on the element itself, not free-drag like a normal Editor page. Getting full drag freedom there means rebuilding as a custom dynamic page, which is a bigger job, not a setting to flip.

On the original 5-8s load: before touching Stores again it’s worth confirming what’s actually slow, a heavy embedded widget, unoptimized custom code or a blocking script/font are common culprits. Deleting and re-adding Stores resets the page and happens to clear whatever was dragging it down, but it’ll likely creep back once the page fills up again. Chrome DevTools Network tab or PageSpeed Insights on the live product page will show you the exact request causing the delay instead of guessing.

If it helps, our free Auditify app can run a CRO/speed scan on the live site and point to the specific element causing the delay, would save you another round of deleting Stores to test it.

Thank you! I managed to delete the Wix Store again, on a duplicate site, and install it and the product-page does not change its name! Just a matter of refreshing before adding. BUT - the new product page cannot be customised to the extent of the page that was deleted! Very strange. It is as if the version of Stores is a few versions back. So - have left with WIX but am loosing confidence in anymore helping me as I keep getting stock responses. Auditing the site is no use! You cannot change any of the replicated JS or structure. Thank you.

Hey Phil, sorry you’re stuck with this, I get the frustration.

To be straight with you: it’s not an older version of Stores. What happened is that any manual customization you’d built into the original product page over time lived on that specific page object. Once you delete Stores, that exact page (and everything you’d added to it beyond the base template) is gone for good. Re-adding Stores only ever regenerates Wix’s current default product page template, which is intentionally locked down to the small settings icon so it stays consistent across every product, it was never meant to be freely draggable.

If you want real design freedom on that page AND keep the speed fix, the reliable path is to stop relying on the default Stores product page and build a Custom Dynamic Page instead: in the Editor, go to your Products collection (CMS), then Add Page > Item Page. That creates a fully drag-and-drop page wired to the same product data, built and styled entirely by you, so nothing locks and nothing resets on you again. It’s more setup work once, but after that every element is genuinely yours to edit.

I want to be honest rather than send you in circles: there’s no way to recover the old auto-generated page’s exact customization, Wix rebuilds that page fresh each time Stores is added. That part isn’t a bug to fix, it’s just not recoverable, only rebuildable on a custom page going forward.
