Internal error when trying to publish eCom Catalog Custom Extension

Question:
I’m trying to set up the eCommerce Catalog Custom Extension in Editor X. I’m following the steps outlined here: eCommerce Catalog Custom Extension (Beta)
On step 1.10 I’m supposed to publish it (without any code added) and in the logs I see the following error:
“ecom catalog integration ‘testCatalog’ was not published due to an internal error. Try to publish your site again in a few minutes. Please contact Customer Care If the problem persists”
Since it’s an “internal error” i can’t really debug this. All I did was add the extension and publish. The instructions said this step was needed to get the appid. Has anyone experienced this?

eCommerce Catalog Custom Extension (Beta) in Editor X

What are you trying to achieve:
Use the custom Catalog SPI

What have you already tried:

Additional information:
Is this something about this being Beta? Does our account needed to be invited or something to use this feature?

@amandam Hi, tagging you in my question as I saw you had helped others in the past with issues with the Catalog Custom Extension.

I’m still getting the “internal error” when trying to publish and I really need someone on the “inside” of wix to look into why this is occurring so I can move forward, thanks!

Hey Jeff! I believe I answered you in Discord already but just in case you didn’t see it (or I’m confusing you with someone else) for this error you will want to follow what it is telling you which is to open a ticket via customer care. This is the most efficient way to get your specific issue through triage and routed to the appropriate developers. Have you opened a ticket yet?

Hi, Amandam, that must have been someone else you were speaking with on Discord.

I did open a ticket on customer care and all they did was send me a link to the tutorial for setting up the Catalog Extension which obviously is not helpful. It appeared they didn’t really read my question.

I have replied back to their response via email. Do you have different suggestion to follow? Or when talking to the customer care robot is there a certain way to answer the questions to make sure this gets to the right person?

Thanks,
Jeff

Can you pass me the ticket number with them and a link to the site that has the SPI on it. I’ll follow up as well with them and see if there is some confusion as to what you are experiencing.

Sure thing but is there a way to provide you with that information directly? I don’t wish to expose our the site our company is working on publicly.

I wanted to post an update here in case others have this issue. Big thanks to @amandam for offering some suggestions that steered me to figure out a workaround.

Basically the Catalog Extension doesn’t work in Editor X. When you try to publish it you get that internal error I mentioned above.

So I tried it in Wix Studio (the soon to be replacement for Editor X) and it works fine.
Unclear if it always was broken in Editor X or this is something new but I would not expect them to fix this as that product is being moonlighted.

I also learned that you need to publish it twice to see the appId. But at least now it seems the appid is logged on all subsequent publishes so you don’t just have one shot to see it.
