Manually Create Login Usernames

Is it possible for me to manually create a username and password that can be used to login to certain pages on my site?

I’m building a school website where students can login to view assignments and other things, but I don’t want them to have to register themselves. I wish to provide a username and password to their parents that can be used to login.

I wonder if this can be accomplished using a database?
