I’m in the process of migrating a couple of websites over for my clients and I’ve discovered how difficult it might be to add custom code - specifically CSS - to their sites. Presently I’ve found the only way to do it is by going through Tracking & Analytics and adding code there (presumably it does this through Google Tag Manager or something similar).
Now, I can’t access Tracking & Analytics unless I link a domain to the site - which I’m building - to replace an existing site - which is running on the same domain still - so it cannot be linked yet.
You see what I’m getting at here?
How am I supposed to build the new site with custom code BEFORE redirecting the domain when I cannot do that without redirecting the domain first?
This makes no sense and is starting to make me question whether Wix was the right platform.
Hi Jeremy, thank you for your feedback. Currently this is not possible.
Here’s a feature request you can vote on.
Thanks Steven. Just to be clear, you’re saying that it’s not possible to migrate an existing website to Wix without moving the domain BEFORE you finish the site build to simply add some custom CSS?
There’s no other way to add custom CSS without this?
It’s not possible to directly access and edit your sites CSS.
If by code you’re referring to Wix Corvid, you may want to check out the Corvid forum here .
Thanks @Steven , that’s obvious, thus you seem to have missed my point.
It’s not that I don’t know about this already annoying limitation, the problem is I can’t use the recommended work-around UNTIL I LINK THE CUSTOMERS DOMAIN to the site . How am I supposed to do that when my clients existing site still needs the domain!?
Presumably it’s there because you’re using Google Tag Manager or something similar to implement the work-around which requires the domain, rather than simply providing a way for developers to add/edit their own custom CSS files.
It’s incredibly frustrating as I recommended Wix not realising how something this fundamental would be so limited. Now I have to go back to them and say - “so we can’t do this, but we could do this, but not until after your site goes live”.
It’s simply nonsensical.
