Hi,
I’m super new to Wix and Corvid, so please bear with me!
basically, I’m looking to add something like the “Amazing Fact Generator” that Mental Floss have on their homepage?
I’m guessing it’s just a repeater, linked to a database? What I can’t work out is how to integrate a “show me another” button into a repeater - so, a button that doesn’t reload the page, just plucks another entry from the database and replaces the one that’s there at the moment. And I also don’t know how to make this all random - so that Entry 1 isn’t displayed every single time the page loads, then clicking that “show me another button” would just move on to Entry 2, 3, 4 … etc etc
It seems like SUCH a cool and simple idea, and would be great to have on my site. But I’m absolutely stumped how this could work. Any ideas or help would be massively appreciated, thanks!
Hello Paul,
i would say, do it step by step.
First at all, gather some facts!
What do you have?
Which elements are needed for the actions?
What shall happen, when i do what?
- You want create a generator!
- All the action shall happen on the same page (no page-change).
- 2-different functions (random & standard).
Do you have already a ready to go DATABASE ?
Do you already have the form (template) ?
You just write what you want, but do nothing say about what you already have.
For example i can’t see your project, because i have not the 7-sense and i am not a clairvoyant

Thanks Dima, sorry, I am super new to all this

Yeah, I have a database full of entries ready to go! (Mine would not be facts, but famous motivational quotes.)
I’ve been trying to connect the database to a stock repeater template in the Wix Editor, but as far as I can tell they do not allow you to (a) pick a random entry every times the page is loaded and (b) click a button to replace that entry with another.
The Fact Generator on the Mental Floss website is basically how I want this template to work but I’m totalllllly lost as to how to do it!

Hello Paul, did you already have found a solutions for your issue?
No, not yet unfortunately!
I’ve been looking at just altering the code of a repeater so that it picks a random entry from a database on each reload, but even that’s proving too hard for a newbie like me!
Hello Paul,
yes of course the learning way is not easy, but in this forum you have absolutely everything to realize your projects.
So why you don’t show your code and start a discussion?
On my opinion, t his way of learning is a little bit faster.
