@danyminko You don’t really need Stripe - that just happens to be “featured” in the example. The main thing to get out of the example is using routers to handle visitor/user access. It’s the cleanest and most secure (since routers are handled in the backend).
I highly recommend playing with the example - although you will need a (free) test Stripe account. Once you understand the workings, you can then pull Stripe out and just handle the different user levels - visitor, signed up, paid.
