Studio Hours - Design Tools Recap: Questions and answers

Hey everyone!

Our last Studio Hours we dove into Design Tools with @matanyad :raised_hands:

If you missed it, here’s everything you need to know.

For an agency training their staff on Wix Studio, how many hours does it take to get up to speed with the design tools Studio has?

Everyone learns at different paces and has different experiences. The Wix Studio Academy is packed with resources like past webinars, the Essentials Course, and more to help you get to grips with Wix Studio.

What’s more, the community is a great place to ask those more intricate questions that you may not get answers to via the Academy.

Additionally, for those that are more “hands-on” learners, the Discover page in the Studio Workspace provides videos Sandboxes and more.

Most people in the Studio Hours session, said “Throw yourself into it” and “get stuck in sooner rather than later. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised”.

Is it possible to have a slideshow with a different layout per slide?

Although not available on the Repeater Slideshow, there are alternative methods, albeit with tradeoffs.

For example, you can use the Flexbox Slides ability to create different layouts, however out of the box, it doesn’t automatically change to the next slide and doesn’t “loop” through each slide.

Another option is to use a Pro Gallery with images per slide.

How do I create a horizontal scroll?

Creating a horizontal scroll can be a fun experience to add to a site. There are multiple steps involved which this tutorial covers in detail and provides all the steps needed to recreate - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_c4dlHyzqM

How do you know when you’ve used too many interactions?

Wix Studio sites can handle lots of interactions. There are 2 ways to look at “too much”: performance and design.

Looking at performance, if you have an entrance interaction in the first fold of a site, it may affect perceived performance while it loads, but in general Wix Studio can handle interactions.

On the other hand, thinking about design, if instead of enhancing the user experience, it distracts from the experience, chances are, you have too many interactions.

Can you set interactions per breakpoint? For example, hover interactions would work on Desktop but wouldn’t work on mobile.

Yes, interactions can be set per breakpoint. Simply change the breakpoint you’re editing and adjust the interaction.
