Using live stream, how would a business collect tax for a paid online stream just as one would for a paid online Wix event (no embed)?

I have a customer who is converting previously planned in-person music events to online events. I originally set it up under events, but there was no capability to restrict access to a certain viewing window. So, I switched to live stream (two will be live streamed, another pre-recorded). Now, I do not see the ability to collect tax (unlike Wix events). There are no payment Wix fees (unlike Events), and it appears that the option would be for the client to pay taxes out of the paid ticket price (and this is not how this happens for ticketing in Wix Events). I do not see how I would do this without setting up a pricing plan, which is a subscription. Help!

Hi there,

Unfortunately, as you stated, with Wix Video it’s not possible to charge outside of a subscription.

You may want to contact our support team to see if they can provide a workaround that covers what you’re trying to achieve

There’s an FAQ on hosting a live stream event in Wix events ( https://support.wix.com/en/article/hosting-a-live-streaming-event-in-wix-events ); however, I’d like to know which payment model takes priority? Is the payment in the Wix event the one to set and make the payment in the live stream setup free or $0.01 to get the restricted viewing window of 72 hours (optimal since this is the only way to collect taxes) or establish payment in the live stream event? Here’s some feedback to help improve: 1. All live streams are events.
2. All events are not live streams.
3. Site owners need to collect taxes for online sales.
4. All ticket sales are online sales.

These four truths about ticketing mean the following:
When setting up a Wix event, the site developer/designer needs to be able to link a live stream event to a Wix event. I can set the Wix event to “Online”; however, there is no link to which live stream event is attached to a particular Wix event. It seems that there should be something that follows the selection of “Online”…

  1. You selected Online as the event. Is the online event a live stream?
  2. Yes. (The system directs the user to connect the live stream to the event).
  3. Is this live stream a paid event?
  4. Yes. Then the payment information is entered for the event.
Now we know which live stream event the customer paid for, and taxes and Wix fees can be collected against the transaction.

I do not believe there should be any payment info entered in the live stream dialog. All live streams are events, thus event management should be used to properly manage the live stream event details, whether paid or free. The option to restrict the viewing window should be part of Wix event manager settings, in my opinion.

All live streams are events. All events are not live streams.
