Variants or no-variants?

Hi folks, my store will sell sportscards. Currently I have a product for each sportscard. And I have 13 possible variants for each card based on condition. The pricing of cards depends on condition. The first issue is that there is no product to buy without selecting a variant. It seems like, however, wix requires me to set a price for the product. Is there a way to avoid this? I am using the bulk upload feature of products. I would really like to use the surcharge feature but as a percent - but it doesn’t seem possible to do this directly. Is that correct?

Is there another setup I should be using?
