Wix Pay for Competition website HELP?!

Hi All,

I have designed a website, coded and built for a client that allows them to run a website for paid competitions. It is legally not a gambling website (followed by the rules of the UK gambling authority). I have helped the client set up wix pay and it saying skilled gaming where the user wins a prize is prohibited. Does anyone know why this is? even though it is made in accordance with UK law?

The reason im posting this as a discussion is because i’m not sure how or who to ask at Wix. I’m panicking because the client has paid me money to make this website for them, including payment for hosting, web address and an email account.

Can someone please advise me on what to do?

I alternatively looked at using stripe as a payment method, would this be a way around this? I’m quite annoyed with myself for not checking this beforehand, i just assumed that with it been inside the law, everything would be fine.

I have not yet been accepted/declined by wix, but my clients need and answer.

thanks everyone

Louis.

The website in question (uncompleted) is www.ultimate-giveaways.co.uk

Hi Louis,

Each payment gateway has its own set of rules and regulations.

You can read about what products and services are restricted when using Wix Payments here .

Stripe will also have its own set of restrictions, which you can read about here .

If you have a question about whether the site itself is legal to host on Wix, you can reach out to our support team .

I hope this helps

Hi Luis,
Regardless of the UK law or any law for that matter, the type of business you working with has a specific Industry code (MCC), which determines the type of business and category.
Based on that, your merchant probably would be considered a “High Risk” merchant, which automatically is not qualified for any merchant account under processing companies or partners that can board regular/most common accounts.
That said, you will have to look for a Merchant Account Provider who specializes in High Risk accounts. A quick google search will give enough information to get started, but as a quick reference, Electronic Merchant Systems (EMS) , is one of them.

I hope this helps you understand a little better the payment processing industry.
