We asked Editor X users for their best tips for beginners - here’s what they told us.
1. Understand your goals first.
“Understand the goal of the website. Without knowing what it serves we can’t design or build a great website.” - Eric
2. Learn from templates .
“Analyze the Editor X templates. Most of the stuff I wanted to learn was done in one of the templates. Copying and pasting the sections and trying to figure out how things worked was how I learned the most.” - Adinde
3. Use Containers .
“The biggest tip I would give is to use containers inside sections. After putting a container inside a section, add a grid and make sure all your content is set to a responsive size. Do a section at a time, then move down breakpoints to tablet then mobile! Also I like to use pixel values in mobile so that mobile landscape and portrait scale nicely.” - Nathan
4. Sketch out your layouts.
“I would say, at a minimum sketch out a rough layout for each breakpoint. It’ll help you decide if you need to but something in a container or a stack. What type of grid you need etc. Don’t focus on the step your on, focus on the next 5 or 6 steps as well.” - Noah
5. Learn UX and Connect with others.
“Two things: Firstly, Learning about UX, Information architecture & Responsive design ( css grid ). Secondly, connecting with other creators, asking for constructive / destructive feedback, get inspired by the work of others and trying to reproduce what inspires you the most.” - Vitika
6. This is NEVER the solution…
“Outlines are never the solution. Drop shadows are never the solution.” - Kate
7. Don’t do something just because you can.
“Just because you CAN animate every little thing doesn’t mean it is a challenge for you TO animate every little thing.
Learn about ADA / accessibility compliance , especially when it comes to animation for any US site.” - Nayeli
8. Organise your elements.
“Make sure to organize elements that need to be together. For example, if you need to make sure some text and buttons need to be responsive together, make sure to stack them or put them in a container with a grid if needed. I usually see a bunch of elements in a section and only docked to closest side which makes working on other breakpoints harder than it needs to be.” - Roberto
