Good afternoon. I am interested in your opinion about the blocking of sites Wix Russia. What to do next? It turns out that everyone who does not have a tariff can no longer create sites on wix. Are you planning to work with new clients from Russia? This greatly lowers our reputation (both wix and designers). Politics is politics, but I, as a designer and partner, and my clients are losing money because of these restrictions. What can you say to that? When it’s all over, will the functions of the store/ hotel/ restaurant be unlocked, or is it worth leaving the platform?
Dear Jane Doe or whatever is your name:
The whole point of the sanctions is to cause you to lose money and reputation, no doubt about it.
If you don’t like it, I would suggest that you go out and demonstrate against your leader and don’t vote for him come next election!
@lipatovaa1991 While the previous comment could have had a bit more tact, they make a good point. Politics is politics as you mentioned, and unfortunately people who live under leaders and have no say in what’s going on for the most part are the ones who suffer. In this case it is you and your clients.
As I don’t know you personally I’m not going to even attempt to guess what your stance is on the whole situation. However, I will give my opinion on the block and why I came to Wix during all this.
You have to understand that Wix has employee’s in the Ukraine and they have been displaced at a minimum and while I don’t know the status of every single one, I’m sure some have either lost people during this or they themselves have been lost. For Wix as a global company to step in and get their people out (those that wanted/needed to leave) is a huge deal to me. It shows compassion, strong character at the top, and the fact that other team members stepped in to help is commendable.
When you get right down to it Wix is in it to make money as are you and your clients. Plain and simple. Blocking revenue from coming in from Russia is also huge from everything I have seen on social media these days and how many people are asking the same questions you are. I get it and I acknowledge that it sucks for you. But, I’m sure they didn’t make the decision lightly. The sanction is also losing Wix money when you look at it. Granted this sanction/block isn’t going to topple them, but it is a loss all the same.
To be transparent on my journey with Wix, I have gone back and forth from SQSP and Wix multiple times since this whole thing started. I loved the platform I was on and when I switched I missed it and went back (as I said, multiple times). However, the deciding factor for me was asking the question, are they in line with my morals? Can I be proud to design on this platform? The answer to those is yes. I then looked at my previous one and asked the same questions. The answer was no, so it was time for me to move on. If the roles were reversed and it was Russia that was under attack and Wix blocked sites/business from the offending country, would you feel the same? Would you be upset then?
Just some things to think about while you are making your decisions. You have to do what is best for you and your clients at the moment. Waiting to see where it is going is an option or you can take it as it is and move forward with whatever path you and your clients feel is best.
