There is a bug in the fitMode function.
In Preview it works as expected and as described in the documentation. Unfortunately in the live version fitMode = fill doesn’t fill the defined size. It resizes the image, so it looks distorted.
Please fix asap.

Hello Marlowe. I have this same issue and wondered if you’d take a look for me too?
I want to use the fitMode fixedWidth for the repeater img that I’ve labelled #picture
Currently the 3 test images from the dataset just appear squished into the img box, thus ignoring the fitMode. 
I really hope you can help, given florian’s issue seems to have resolved.
