I’m having trouble with I want to use the expanding paragraph feature reached via the top menu pick for adding an element. I have installed the element on my page but the editing feature did not include a button so I cannot get this to function work (ideally I wanted a little + symbol ).

What I’m trying to do
I have a 5 line summary of an item, I want to click a button (or the text) and see it expand to a paragraph, or open a new page (preferable in a new browser tab).

What I’ve tried so far. I have used the top menu pick to add this element to a page. The tooling allows me to edit / create the summary text, but doesn’t generate a button or any linkages to a new page / the extended paragraph text.

Extra context I want to use the feature in a long list of technical info, so the ability to replicate the structure for every item is promising and if it will allow me to simply update the page with the text for every article rather than re-creating it all by hand every time that would be great.

Ideally, the extended paragraph will go from 5 lines to 15, with a further button directing the reader to a full page (or create a linked additional page). However, I can’t even get it to work with a single expansion level. As I’m here, ideally, the full page would also self populate with a “back button”

You are almost certainly on a plain text element. That is why there is no button to switch on, a normal text box has no expand behaviour to enable.

The element you want is Collapsible Text. Add Elements, then Text, then Collapsible Text, and drag it in. The toggle is built in. In its settings you choose what the button does, either Expand which opens the text in place, or Link which sends the visitor elsewhere, and you set the button label yourself, so a plus sign or your own wording both work.

On your other two requirements, know what it will and will not do.

Opening in a new tab needs the Link option pointed at the full page. Expand only ever opens in place.

Multi level, five lines to fifteen to a full page, is the part I would not assume. Nesting collapsible text inside collapsible text is not documented, so I would not build on it. For a long technical list an accordion set is the more reliable middle tier, with each accordion item linking out to its own page for the full text. That gives you two levels without depending on undocumented behaviour, and the back button is the browser’s, which is one less thing for you to build.
