Hi Dea,
Did you change anything? I just went to your site and it worked on my home computer.
Hi Dea,
Did you change anything? I just went to your site and it worked on my home computer.
Now it works from my computer too!
The only thing I did was to click in the window titled âcontentâ and by doing so the save button on the left side became clickable, so I clicked it and maybe I activated the code? I have no clue, but I am glad itâs done now. Thatâs a relief!
Thank you so so much for your time Roberto! Dea
Hi all,
This is a great thread as it has helped me installing Cookiebot on my website. However, I have installed the Cookiebot and users can select to opt out for any unnecessary cookies, but there are about 14 cookies that are unclassified, they seem to come from Wix. I would say that only that makes my website not compliant with GDPR, am I right?
Also, when I do the urlcheck on Cookiebot itself it says the website is now partially compliant as it is not possible to ask for prior consent on personal data and other than necessary cookies. Is this something you guys have been able to overcome?
In short my questions come down to the following: have you been able to create websites with Wix that are fully compliant with GDPR and ePR? And if it is not possible at the moment, do you know if this is something being worked on?
Greatly appreciate your help on this - thanks!

Hello guys, unfortunately currently you can only implement the banner of cookiebot within sites made with wix, but cookies are not preventively blocked and there is no way to do so so all sites made with wix are not in compliance with recent legislation GDPR at least until WIX will prevent the preventive blocking of cookies.
https://support.wix.com/en/article/request-allowing-site-visitors-to-opt-in-or-out-of-cookies
Has anybody ever managed to get CookieBot actually working in a Wix website, or has anybody ever even visited a Wix generated website which has a working CookieBot banner? Iâve never been able to find one myself.
@info (Aug 30) and others. Actually your problems are much greater than you think because as far as all the Wix generated cookies are concerned your users cannot opt out of any of them at all, even if you have them all fully categorised in Cookie Bot and even if none of them are in the Unclassified category.
It works the first time a user visits your page (when the Cookie Bot banner is present and clickable) which you can, and probably have, confirmed by checking your cookies (for example by right clicking Chrome and choosing Inspect followed by the application tab - or by checking some time afterwards by using Chromeâs Settings, advanced, content settings method). If you do either of those things then you will find that the cookies the user opted out of when he clicked your Cookie Bot banner are not there. This of course would lead you to the conclusion that it has all worked, at least as far as opting out of the cookies is concerned.
However, it has not worked at all, as you will discover the next time the same user visits your site on the same machine (when the Cookie Bot banner is of course not displayed). If you check the cookies after that second visit, and after every subsequent visit then you will find those cookies which the user âopted out ofâ are all back!
This of course is even worse than not bothering with the Cookie Bot banner at all and doing nothing whatsoever about cookies, because the Cookie Bot banner gives your user the impression that his âopt outâ has worked, when in fact it has not! As far as the law is concerned, this behaviour would be viewed more seriously than doing nothing at all!
One possible âkludgeâ for this problem would be to force the Cookie Bot banner to display every time a user visits your page - but it is not something seriously worth considering because it would not be elegant at all and it would also seriously annoy all visitors to your site (seeing your cookie bot banner appear EVERY time they visit your site would really annoy them and they wouldnât be back for more!).
Iâm working on another different solution for just this one specific problem (well, another âkludgeâ really, but not quite as âkludgyâ as the previous one because it would not require multiple appearances of the Cookie Bot banner) but Iâm pretty much going nowhere at the moment. The coding (at least the initial part of the coding) is coming on okay but even using my daughterâs Wix account which unlike mine is a full Unlimited version Iâm having a lot of difficulty getting Wix to come up with full details of all their normal default cookies (a full explanation of exactly what task each cookie does) so I currently donât know âwhich ones to binâ and which ones to leave alone.
Before I waste too much time chasing down that particular road Iâm hoping that Wix will get together properly with Cookie Bot and come up with a full and proper GDPR and ePrivacy compliant solution which works correctly in Wix websites.
It must surely be beneficial for Wix to spend some time and money on this problem, because Iâve spent a lot of time recently viewing literally hundreds of Wix web sites out there in the wild (mostly those in UK and Europe) and every single one of them is currently breaking the law! This is NOT going to be good for Wix if word gets out and if reviewers start mentioning this extremely serious problem in their reviews of Website Builders!
Have you read this article?
@andreas-kviby Yes, Iâve read that article, but it doesnât address the question.
I canât get it to work either and I followed all the instructions âŚ
@victoria-shelley Which part are you having trouble with? Youâll never get âprior consentâ to work properly (at least not until Wix allow its users editing access to the parts of their page code which are pulling in their own Wix cookies) but you should be able to get the Cookiebot banner to show and allow viewers of your site to select which cookie categories they want and which they do not, and then deal with the cookies retroactively. Which part is not working for you? For example, can you get the Cookiebot banner itself to shown on your pages? If not then post a link to your online website and Iâll have a look to see if you have the main Cookiebot script installed correctly.
@gagamomo63 I got the banner to work no problem itâs the declaration, no matter what I try it doesnât work.
@victoria-shelley Right. I didnât bother with that declaration myself because its style cannot be customised in my own free version of Cookiebot and so I created my own âPrivacy Policy and Cookiesâ page and inserted suitable content myself in the standard Wix way. However, if you want to use it yourself then it should be easy for you to get it going, and I suspect the reason it is not working for you is because you are putting your Cookiebot CookieDeclaration script in the wrong place. You need to first create a new page in Wix in the standard way and then go to your Wix Dashboardâs Advanced / Tracking and Analytics in the usual way (the way you used it when you inserted your Cookiebot Banner script). Then press the +New Tool button and paste the CookieDeclaration script in the space at the top, then (where it says "Add code to Pages:) select the new Wix page which you created and then select the âBody - Endâ option and click âApplyâ. Then make sure that you enable it before closing.
There will still be a problem (because CookieBot does not work anyway with your Wix cookies, at least it works only the first time a user visits your site, but not thereafter, so there is more work youâll need to do to fix that problem) - but at least your declaration should now be working.
(Post back with your siteâs url if you are still having problems). Mike.
@gagamomo63 Thanks for the heads up. I tried that in all three places - it does work but it looks dreadful because itâs in the wrong place it doesnât pick up the colours etc on the site.
@victoria-shelley Yes, it does look dreadful, which is one of the reasons I said that I did not use it myself (because its style is not editable at all in my own free version of CookieBot, and I have the feeling that it is probably not editable in any meaningful way (for a Wix webpage) even in the âpaid forâ version)! As I previously mentioned, I created and edited my own Privacy Policy and Cookie page as a standard Wix page in the standard Wix way, so that it fits in perfectly with my site.
I didnât even include the details of the actual cookies in my Privacy Policy and Cookie page - just a description of cookies in general and details of my privacy policy and a button to press so the viewer can bring up the CookieBot banner whenever he want to if he wants to change his mind, etc. There is no need for full details of the actual cookies in such a page (although you can manually enter those details if you really want to) because you can set the Cookiebot banner Dialog to âMethod: Explicitâ and âType: Multilevelâ and then the user can view full details of the specific cookies simply by clicking the âShow Detailsâ button in the banner whenever it is showing.
Anyway, as Iâve said, there are other much more important problems you will need to tackle after you have got your privacy policy and cookie page and the banner set up the way your want it - not the least of those problems being the fact that Cookiebot does not work anyway in a Wix page. Check it out yourself if you donât believe me. Clear your cache so the banner shows when you run the page and select âNo cookies except essential required cookiesâ and youâll find that it works okay for that first run of the page, but the âunwantedâ cookies appear again anyway after you have closed your browser and visit your site again (or even as you navigate through the pages on the first run!). You can do things to tackle that specific problem - but get your general visual layout running properly first.

Hi everyone, can somebody please help me here. I have managed to install the Cookiebot banner and the declaration. There are the check boxes where the visitor can opt out, and on the declaration page, they can change their consent. In theory.
I am running my website on Chrome, where one can see which cookies are in use. So if I uncheck all the cookies except necessary on the banner, it doesnât seem to disable any cookies! The number of cookies in use is just the same⌠Is that the case for everyone else? (What is especially disturbing is that _ga is in use even though I disabled Google Analytics and deleted my website from the GA account.)
I could gather from other comments that the banner not working as it should is a common problem, but there are workarounds. Could someone please explain?
In the Cookiebot installation instruction, it says:
" To enable prior consent, apply the attribute âdata-cookieconsentâ to cookie-setting script tags on your website. "
WHERE are those tags? Can someone please tell me where exactly I have to click to disable the cookies that WIX places on my website? Once again, I am not using any third party tracking or content. Thank you!!
Hi, I am getting antsy because I donât know where did I do wrong. I follow the instruction to the T and didnât missed any step. I do have basic understanding but it is baffling why it isnât working at all. I did used CookiePro.com and it didnât work at all. So I signed up Cookiebot.com and it still doesnât work at all. I used Safari and Google Chrome and neither show up at all. I did used Wix Cookie App and that is (sorry) a totally failure. I wanna make sure that my page is in compliance. my site is www.dreammakerstour.com
Hi Veronica,
I visited your page and the cookie banner works. If youâre not able to see it, itâs probably because you already have the cookies saved in your browser. If you clear the history and cookies it might show up again.
On the other side, I didnât see the privacy policy anywhere and I assume that even if you had it, it wouldnât be possible to change your preferences. Which is were everyone in this thread is at the moment.
@roberto-camp Thank you for the reply. I actually went back and change everything one by one. It is possible that Wix.com have some kind of restriction set that I am not so sure of. I donât have privacy policy set up because I canât afford to pay for legal term. I did my research and our business is quite small. I did plan to create my own by looking into other travel industry but I read one article that it isnât a good idea since each company work differently. thank you for checking out and letting me know that it work out well.
Hello
it my first day on wix and i find it really interesting. I try to make my website GDPR compliant with a cookie bar. The cookiebar is not GDPR compliant so, I was looking for another option. I found a good website to avail the cookie consent & gdpr is seersco.com. Has someone at this form experience with connection WIX and Cookiebot or does someone know another option to be GDPR compliant instead of cookiebot?
Thanks
After a couple of hours and some research on this topic, I decided to write a little blog post about the integration of wix.com and cookiebot.com using Google Tag Manager. I tried to show the overall process on a special topic. I also showed how to hook up with Custom Events and Styling. Maybe this post is of use for future readers: https://medium.com/@sebastian.zolg/complete-guide-to-gdpr-eu-eprivacy-compliant-cookie-declaration-using-wix-com-acfd2a88ad87
