Google API key restricted. Alternatives?

I dont know if this the right place to ask.
I am working with maps within my website and used Google Maps because it is easy to integrate in WIX.
When i was about to generate a new API key on the Google Developers page i learned that you cannot achieve an API key unless you enter information about your credit card for Google.

I dont have one and i also wouldnt give that to Google.

I wonder if anybody of you knows about a good alternative to use and customize maps in WIX.
I tried to work with Here Maps but i had a hard time customizing the map.

Dawd

Hi Dawd,
When I tried to create it myself, I didn’t need to add any credit card information… I recommend following Yisrael’s explanation here .

Best,
Tal.

Hey Tal,

thank you for the reply. I digged a bit within the Google Dev´s page and it seems that there was a major change in billing the API keys a few days ago. The screenshot is from Google Maps Platform Documentation  |  Google for Developers .

I was able to check my current projects in that guide and i´ve been told that all my projects get priced now.

Greetings,

Dawd

Hey Tal,

i kind of figured out where to look for my API keys and stored that page on my browser. Oldschool but it works out haha.

Thanks for your efforts!

Hi there,
That’s the truth, Google Maps has changed its charging politics and that’s why now it requires a credit card to achieve an API key (and also limited the number of free queries to usage). But there is a lot of good mapping services, which uses the API key. If you want to read and choose one of the alternatives to Google Maps, then I recommend you to read this article . Also, if you would like to know more about the changes in Google Maps politics, then you can check out it here .

Hey msamyiness,

thank you for the info. I already decided to conitnue to work with HereMaps. The overall niveau of that company is similar to Google´s. Also, they provide a new enivronment for developers with their Freemium-offer.

They definetely took advantage of Google´s billing move.

Hi dawid.jobe,
No problem, I tried my best to help you  I think HereMaps is a really reasonable choice - as you said, they made a quite good work just at the right time. Also, their features are really encouraging but it is always good to see how other mapping platforms look like.
