I just created an online store using “Wix Stores”. I have just received a notification from Google Search Console that reads: Search Console has identified that your site is affected by 5 Products issues: Top Warnings Warnings are suggestions for improvement. Some warnings can enhance your appearance on Search; some might become errors in the future. The following warnings were found on your site: Missing field ‘priceValidUntil’ Missing field ‘sku’ Missing field ‘review’ Missing field ‘aggregateRating’ No global identifier provided (e.g. gtin, mpn, isbn) We recommend that you fix these issues when possible to enable the best experience and coverage in Google Search.
2 questions:
I know we can add sku #'s in Wix Stores - we did not add sku numbers - can this affect SEO if we don’t add sku numbers?
I don’t understand the other things they are saying are missing…are the missing items something that I can fill out in Wix Stores for the products? Or does that require special coding?
These refer to structured data, which is code that is behind your content and gives data about your products in this case in a way that makes it easy for Google and other search engines to understand. Google can use this to highlight things like price / availability etc. the search engine results.
All the ones you have listed there are warning ones, so they would be good to add IF you had them, but won’t stop Google using the data that is there.
So to address your questions:
Yes, not adding SKU numbers can affect it. Any information you can provide Google about your product will impact your SEO, so this is Google providing some points where SEO is not bringing up any results.
I will be happy to break down each one for you
Missing field ‘priceValidUntil’ - The priceValidUntil property only makes sense for products on sale. The warning missing field priceValidUntil occurs in Google Search Console when a product has no sale price set.
Missing field ‘sku’- The warning missing field sku occurs in Google Search Console when a product has no SKU (stock keeping unit) defined. Usually, SKUs are required for products with variations, for example, wallets in different colors.
Missing field ‘review’- This warning is looking for active reviews within the Product Page.
Missing field ‘aggregateRating’- You need to have valid markup on your product pages if you want the Google search engine to be able to show rich snippets for your products. We all know the star ratings in Google; these are a result of using the correct markup.
No global identifier provided (e.g. gtin, mpn, isbn)- Product identifiers are a series of numerical or alphanumerical digits - a barcode assigned to a product. They help to identify and recognize a specific product.Product Identifiers consist of a unique barcode to locate products online. Usually, they include Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs), Manufacturer Part Numbers (MPNs) and brand names.
Implementing these would get rid of the warnings but just keep in mind that these are warnings not errors so they are only recommendations that are applicable to all products.
Thank you so much for the detailed response, Randy. I just have a follow-up question:
How do I accomplish points “c”, “d” and “e”? Do I have to use an app or apply custom coding?
As for the AggregateRating, this will need to be done by using a third party company that offers to do handle the coding side of things or create your own custom JSON LD.
To generate schema markup for other pages of your site we recommend using this tool and selecting a markup from the drop-down at the top. You may also choose to use Google’s markup generator by selecting a term on the left and clicking “See Markup”. Learn more.
As a continuation to our conversation, I have now received a notification from Google Search Console that there is the following missing field:
Missing field ‘brand’
Does #wixstores provide a specific field to add the “Brand” of a product for Google to “see” the brand? Or, does this have to be done with custom coding?
The warning “missing field priceValidUntil” occurs in Google Search Console because there is a structured markup “@type”:“Offer” in Wix store product template and it comes by default. (See SEO->Product markup preset). Why it comes by default as an offer? May be this markup should be removed from the template?
As this warning is a sign of incomplete structure of the product webpage, I believe it is not good for product snippet and SEO.
