How do I set the background to a particular colour, rather than white? I can set the background for particular sections, but what about the overall background of the site?

The white space above the header and under the footer is beyond your page limits itself. So changing the page background will not solve that either.

Here’s a solution for that, all you have to do is change the HEX code to your desired one and copy - paste the code in your site’s custom code section through the dashboard. But using custom code is currently only available for premium sites so you will have to upgrade your site to a premium plan first.

White borders on top and bottom of the screens / scrolly pages

I believe this is because by default, the site body has a transparent background, so when overscrolling in both directions, you’re scrolling past the content in the body, and therefore showing the color of the browser background.
