How to create a dimming/focusing effect on a search bar/container.

Hi, after looking through the API I’m still not sure if this is possible. I’m trying to make a search bar that, when a button is clicked, appears with an animation, dims everything else on the page, and puts the mouse cursor in the box for immediate typing (which I believe I can do with the focus() function). The rest, particularly the dimming, I’m not sure how to properly implement. Any help would be appreciated!

Hmmm, it’s not exactly what I was hoping for but I think I can make it work!
