Implementing external API's into your website. Can it be done?

**We would love to integrate two seperate API’s into pages on our website, but we’re not so developer-savvy. (Hence why we’re using Wix)

Has anyone been able to successfully implement an external API into their website, and if so, could you provide any help and assistance at all?

Thank you for any help and guidance.

Yes, it can be done. Which route is easiest depends on what the API should do:

1. Show data from an API on a page (no coding)
If the service offers an embeddable widget or iframe, add an Embed code element (Add > Embed code > Embed HTML) and paste their snippet. A lot of APIs (booking tools, maps, reviews) ship this for exactly this reason.

2. Send data somewhere when something happens (low code)
For things like “when a form is submitted, send it to our CRM”, use Wix Automations with a webhook action, or connect through Zapier or Make. You don’t write code, you map fields.

3. Call the API yourself (a little code, but very doable)
Turn on Dev Mode and do the call in backend code, not on the page, so your API key stays private:

  • Store the key in the Secrets Manager (Developer Tools > Secrets Manager).
  • Create a backend web method (a .web.js file) that uses fetch from wix-fetch and reads the key with getSecretValue from wix-secrets-backend.
  • Call that method from your page code and put the result into a text element or a repeater.

Wix’s docs have a good walkthrough: search “Velo: Accessing 3rd-Party Services with the Fetch API”.

If you share which two APIs you mean and what you want them to do on the page, people here can point you to the simplest of these three.
