Lightbox Design

One thing that I would love Editor X to develop is more flexibility regarding lightbox design. At the moment you can basically only design a square or rectangular box. You can’t add a border or change the shape, apply a shadow, etc. You can probably achieve the effect you want through adding elements as a workaround but more functionality here would be great.

To see an example of what I am referring to, got to the Freshbooks website. Click on the Buy Now and Save green button. Then click on the See Offer Details link below the next Buy Now and Save button.

Thanks for the feedback @andrew_crowe and you are right that attaching a container to the lightbox and customizing the container would be the workaround.

As for the Freshbooks website, I followed the steps and that seems to be a hover interaction rather than a lightbox.

It will be unwise to plan such an effect with a Lightbox, as you will want better precision with locating the arrow in the middle of the text, plus a Lightbox can be a bit slow.
If I were to build this, I would approach the text and container as two children of the same parent occupying a single grid, and just hide/show or change the scale with a hover interaction.

As for the shape, in editor X it’s just two small containers added on top of the bigger one. One would be rotated, and the other will serve to hide the extra border, giving an illusion of a triangle.

Thanks Roberto. Yes I have actually decided to avoid using a lightbox method and have instead set up a multi-state box. It seems to work really well.

Thanks for your comment Ronny.

I really do think we need to be able to use scale text for button design. We are limited to 6 breakpoints, so for a truly responsive design (particularly at smaller viewport widths on mobile devices) this is essential.

While a workaround is to create a button from scratch - with scale text linked to the relevant destination - this is not ideal. One drawback is that, when I test this method, the artificial button I have created does not seem to work on older devices for some bizarre reason.

There is a feature request for this that can be voted on.
