Migration from Wordpress to Wix

Hi there

Any advice re this particular issue,

I am migrating my Clients site to Wix from Wordpress. The current site has a weird page name system where a / is added after the page name

ie https://www.domain.com/the-paints/

In Wix I can only call the page https://www.domain.com/the-paints (Wix wont recognise the / at the end)

My question is will this effect back links and any SEO?

Or will a 301 Redirect work ie Will Wix allow me to enter https://www.englishpaintdeliveredtofrance.com/the-paints/ to redirect to https://www.englishpaintdeliveredtofrance.com/the-paints

Any other advice about migration would be most welcomed, I’m guessing if i use the same URLs then I shouldn’t lose back links. Obviously I cant add the / to the Wix page but if pout in the same URL without the / intoi my browser the page still comes up.

Thanks for reading

Hi Vin! Great question.

We’ll check in with the team and see if they have any advice on this topic. @markapreston our resident SEO wiz (pun intended) has also spoken quite a bit about the subject .

Hey there Vin,

This format structure will not impact your SEO however I do recommend that you set the 301 redirects for Google.

The slash is conventionally a directory however without the slash is conventionally a file which in this case would be a page. Google treats each URL above separately (and equally) regardless of whether it’s a file or a directory, or it contains a trailing slash or it doesn’t contain a trailing slash.

I have found a great article that explains this in more detail you can find here

To slash or not to slash

Hey Sheyla and Randy

Thank you so much. I am ready to push another Wix site live!

We’re happy to hear Vin!
