New to Wix - some basic questions!

Hi Everyone, hope you’re well & staying safe during these times.

I’ve just started using Wix, and am in the process of migrating my old website from Joomla over to Wix. I was going to post the links to both websites, so you guys can have a look, but seems I don’t have permission.

It’s a community site, and while I’ve finished building all the “aesthetics” of the site, I’m now trying to setup my members areas - specifically setting up member sign-up process, member profile page, member lists, member roles, and also migrate all my joomla members over.

I have read all the support document guides, and watched a whole bunch of youtube guides, but still seem to be stuck on a couple of basic things.

Here are my 1st couple of questions I’d really love to get answers / guidance on:

1. New Registrations linking to / populating my Content Manager Collection

So I’ve created a custom form for new visitors to complete when they sign-up to become a member on my site. I’ve included several custom fields in the form, and mirrored them in my contents where I’ve made a database. I’ve also successfully linked each field in my form, to those fields in my content manager database. I’ve tested creating an account, and it isn’t auto-populating in my database unfortunately. I’ve made sure the content collection is Live (not in sandbox), and also checked AFTER I approve the new user, but still, it doesn’t populate. I’m obviously missing something, but no idea what.

2. My Profile Page

I’m also trying to create a profile page, where once the member is approved & logged in, they can view all their details that they submitted in the registration form, which is populated in the collection. I’ve created a profile page using the template that comes with Wix, and linked my field sections to the collection, using “Owner” as the filter, so it only shows the info of the user who’s in “my profile” - however it just defaults to displaying the 1st person in my collections data. I’m not really sure what I’m doing here to be honest.

I’ve read / seen that you need to make a dynamic page for this, is that true? I don’t believe the profile page I’ve created is a “Dymanic” one. I’m very open to any advice I can get on this. I basically want users who are logged in, to be able to go to “My Profile” page, and view all their submitted details (as well as edit them). And for other visitors to the site to visit “Members” profiles, and view their info there too (but not be able to edit of course).

Hope you can help steer me where I’m going wrong, thanks!

I have a few other questions all related to managing members, but let’s get these 2 out the way, then we can move onto others haha. Again, I HAVE tried to teach myself over the last week, by watching videos, reading guides, and experimenting myself, but these are a couple of things where I’ve hit a wall. I also haven’t even figured out how to “assign roles” to my members, but lets cross that bridge later haha.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Tom

Still hoping someone will come to my rescue soon

Hi - me again.

So while waiting for someone to help / respond to this, I made “some” progress on point 1. I discovered that I had to have 1 submit button to submit the content collection data, and a separate button to submit the actual user account.

I would rather have just 1 submit button that BOTH creates a user account AND submits the data to my content collection… is this possible?

I tried a work-around by putting BOTH buttons on the form, so the user could click the 1st button which submits the content collection info, then the final signu-up submit button. This didn’t work though, because as soon as you hit the first submit button, while it DOES submit all the content, it clears the fields… so you can’t then click the sign-up submit button without re-typing everything again

Short version is, I just one 1 submit button that will create the user account AND submit the collection content info. Anyone know how I can do this?

Thank you!!

Ok, another update lol.

I found a work-around. I effectively made 2 pages, one for the registration details and one for the collection info capture. I just linked the “submit” button from the collection page, to the account creation page, and presto - did the job. I’m still not clear on how the site will know / be able to link the account to the collection database… so if anyone can shed any light on that, that would be great.

Hi me again, why am I talking to myself haha - I could really use some expert help with this.

So my work-around above didn’t quite work out. The problem with getting visitors to complete the data collection page 1st, and sign-up 2nd, is that it doesn’t assign the owner ID to the content, which is a problem. So I’m back to square one, and need a way ideally for anyone who signs up to the site, to be automatically re-directed to the profile data capture form.

I’ve done some googling to see if anyone knows how to setup that re-direct, but no joy so far. Any ideas?

Please understand that this forum is not a support site. It is a community of Corvid developers and users where coding and development topics are discussed and information shared. There is no assurance that users will find their answers here.

I believe that you will get better results if you ask simple questions, presenting one issue at a time instead of charting out an entire complex project.

I would suggest that you explain each issue in a separate post, tell what you are trying to do, what works, and what doesn’t. Also, add any code in a code block as stated in the Forum Guidelines .

Good luck.

Hi there, thank you for explaining. The good news is I’ve made much progress on a lot of the above, and now only have a couple of small tasks to complete. I will take your advice and post 1 request at a time.

Thank you again
