One time lightbox code not working

Can anyone help with this?

I am trying to make a GDPR lightbox on my page display only once to each user. I am doing everything exactly according to the Wix instructions on this page: https://support.wix.com/en/article/wix-code-tutorial-creating-a-one-time-popup but it doesn’t work at all anymore.

It actually used to work when I first bought my site, but not at all anymore.

I’ve checked that the item is in local storage, so that’s not a problem … and I have no extensions, settings, etc. blocking it, so I can’t figure out why it doesn’t work anymore.

This is where I was told to go by Wix support (even though I paid the full amount for them to give me support … they said I should get help here … but there doesn’t seem to be anyone here actually supporting? I’m confused … why send me here?)
