So, I am actively working on it and would love to have a solution by somepoint in January, but that is assuming I find surefire code that will work seamlessly.
Also, I do know Wordpress has a full system for it, but it would require so much more upfront work than you are probably looking to do right now.
I just hate sitting around waiting haha which sounds ridiculous but if I’m not actively working towards a good solution for myself I get quite frustrated and feel like I’m getting nothing accomplished. I hope that makes sense.
Chrissy, sorry for just now getting back to you - I was down with the flu over the holiday. I was not able to get the API Coding to work between Wix and Stripe so I could take paid memberships. I am certain that was a limitation in my skill level as a coder, but there it is. I went with Jot Form as my work around, with a second Members-Only website that utilizes the Wix Member Login feature once they have signed up to be a paid member through my public-access site. It is not the ideal solution that I am looking for, but I needed to get up and running sooner than I could learn the intricacies of coding it.
the option for user friendly membership features within wix seems like a no brainer, i’m surprised it hasn’t happened yet. i’ve been waiting and when I saw wix code i thought it had finally arrived. i’m disappointed to see that it is still not really feasible.
that, along with a more robust email auto responder would take wix to the next level.
Yeah, I must say - I’ve given up on Wix for now. Luckily, my sister knows what she’s doing with Wordpress and so I’ve abandoned ship because they have an incredibly seamless and user friendly paid membership plugin. I just couldn’t wait any longer for Wix to get this out there. I was told I’d be a beta tester for Wix’s solution back in December and so not even the beta is ready yet. It’s really too bad. I spend a lot of time and money with my Wix site to end up getting so frustrated that this (like Crystal said) no-brainer feature wasn’t available and the workarounds were clunky (at best).
As much as I love you Wix, It’s amazing to me that you don’t have it as a TOP priority for your customers to make money on their websites. Many of us are small business owners. I can’t believe that you would do all the work to get a membership area set up without your number one priority being how to secure pages and for your customers to get paid on those secure pages. It’s kind of crazy to me.
That being said… I can’t just sit and wait for Wix to decide to get this working. Here’s the workaround that I did for anyone watching this thread…
I use Wix for my homepage because it is so easy to change the design and make updates. But for our membership site we’re using a separate Squarespace site along with Memberspace. And then we just link out to that second site from our Wix site. I hate having 2 sites, but this was our cleanest option out of everything I tried.
As soon as Wix makes this a top priority to allow their customers to make money on their websites, this will have to do for our membership site.

That was exactly what I decided to do so I’m glad you shared that. How is the square space/ memberspace solution working for you?
I’m using my wix site as a free member portal. And the forum fearure to share curated members only content. I plan to develop my premium membership with price tiers on square space.
Hi Crystal,
So far I’m loving it. I haven’t run any outside customers through it yet (we open at the end of this month) but I’ve been testing it for 3 months.
The setup was really easy, Memberspace staff is super responsive, and their system of how they manage the secured pages/content is a very clean system. It took me a little bit to get used to Squarespace page designing which I’m still not a fan of (the spacer thing is just annoying) but I’ve gotten all the random bugs of having 2 sites working together worked out. If you do end up going this route and you ever get stuck on something you can email me here rcspowers@gmail.com and I can talk you through it.
I’m not using Wix for any of the membership side stuff at all. I have a link on my Wix homepage that says “Members” that goes to a login page from Memberspace that sends them to my protected pages on my Squarespace site. I can’t use Wix for their membership features because they don’t even work with Zapier. They just don’t play well with others. So even if I wanted to add members to a Wix database that channeled through my other site after paying I can’t. Wix has tied my hands so much that I can only use them for web pages.
Ideally Wix would allow Stripe and Paypal to charge for access to memberships (one-time and recurring)… they just don’t. I would move to Squarespace to simplify at this point, but there’s no comparison to the ease of use to changing and building webpages with Wix. But it’s definitely been a struggle to try and make money through my Wix site.
Yes, I got that. I have an external site as well for membership. What I was trying to do was somehow export my members from my external site and load them into Wix contacts so I could setup protected pages and the forum. I have been told that is not possible as the Wix login subsystem does not talk, or ahave any knowledge of a custom membership database “collection”. The way that is now, one would have to create a separate login for wix, which I do not want to do. Still waiting…
Yes that’s what I meant by saying “Wix doesn’t play well with others” and that they don’t work with Zapier. Even if they don’t want to take on the payment system, they could’ve allowed us to use an external system for payment that would then add them as a contact in Wix (all kinds of other companies do this with Zapier and it works great).
So I have finally made PayPal subscriptions work together with Wix Code and I am working on a course on how to make a full blown membership site integrated with PayPal Subscriptions. If you are interested please fill out this three question form. https://goo.gl/forms/h9hyqPVImpw7gacS2
Hey Andreas,
I’d be interested if you had the ability to make this work with multiple payment options. If people can’t use credit cards your sales get really cut. I’ve been tracking the numbers over 12 years of doing online business.
Plus I’d want to know what exactly you figured out, and how you intend to explain it. One thing I see that I really hate is that people will come out with a “solution” that is full of holes and now YOU get to be the one to figure out where the holes are. So I’d want to know… did you really own the ENTIRE customer process from beginning to end with all the areas that a customer will fall in a hole? AND did you factor in updates and future problems that we would run into as time goes on. AAAANND do you have the ability to clearly teach a newb or outsider how to do this without us falling down a hole somewhere? Which is why a lot of people respond better to YouTube tutorials. If I’ve taken a person’s tutorial on YouTube and they didn’t confuse the masses, I’d be more likely to buy their course because they’ve EARNED the trust.
That’s just my opinion… either way, good luck and I hope you are successful with the work you put in.
