Paid Membership Feature

Hello,

I am a Wix Certified Trainer and a Wix web designer for several amazing clients. Through my YouTube channel, I have found one topic light up the past few months. The Wix community wants a paid membership feature. I was hoping with Wix Code, we can now make this possible. I know you can currently add members to your website and now they can create profiles and access member only content, but there is no solution for a paid membership. Now, on my YouTube channel I have tought workarounds through PayPal and such, but they are all flawed and difficult to achieve the desired result.

It is evident that by adding a paid membership option, it will bring thousands of new users to Wix, no doubt in my mind. Essentially, I would love to have the membership option Wix offers now, but also offer an option that allows website owners and web developers a chance to charge a flat fee or monthly charge to become a member and access exclusive paid member content.

Weekly, I have new viewers, subscribers and even my clients ask me if Wix has created their own paid membership option in the editor yet and I feel with Wix Code launching, this is an excellent time to release an option like this.

If you have any questions on what I am asking or talking about, feel free to ask!

Thank you,

Michael

Hi Michael, this sounds very interesting, thank you.
One of our product managers will be in contact sometime in the next few days to get a bit more data.

Thanks!

Ziv,

Thank you very much! I’m excited to explain it more, because this feature is much needed. I am currently working on a website with a client that wants to implement paid membership features in and I explained how we have to go about it currently, and she was upset. The reason being, is currently, it is extremely difficult to make it happen, however, I’m glad to hear that you are interested and taking the next step to implement it.

Also, should I be expecting a phone call or an email?

Thank you,

Michael Strauch

This would be great for us as well. We are in the loop of creating four large membership sites in WordPress but I would love to bring them to WIX instead. One of the sites will have 100 members and the largest is aimed towards 25.000 members.

We would like to setup different membership levels, like free, standard and premium and then connect thoose to flat fee, monthly or yearly subscriptions.

If you could make ROLES in WIX connectable to membership plans with free or fees it would blow us away and we would asap start re-creating the sites in wix instead of WordPress.

Andreas,

I 100% agree with everything you just mentioned. In fact, I almost lost clients due to the sole fact that paid membership websites are a nightmare to build in Wix and they wanted to move over to Wordpress. Thankfully, I was able to convince them to stay here on Wix and still build an amazing website for them.

Ultimately, Wix needs to add this feature, because I truly believe it is retracting some users (possibly a good portion) and that is not what I want or the users. Also, Andreas, I definitley agree with the membership levels. If and (HOPEFULLY) they add this paid membership option, they might as well make it possible to add different membership levels as well as different payment options.

Wix developers, if you are reading this thread, please take it into consideration very seriously, because I guarantee you will have so many more users go to Wix rather than Wordpress and even might have some Wordpress users move from Wix. Truthfully, other than with scenarios like the paid membership feature, Wix is WAY better than Wordpress. It gives the users more freedom and it is much easier to use and learn.

So, Wix Code developers, please roll this paid membership feature out before you launch Wix Code to all users, I promise it will be a decision that is celebrated across all Wix offices and across this entire Wix community. We all want it! I even have data and comments to support my claim. It is a pressing issue, and we need to add this.

Again, if you have any questions at all about this system or feature, please just ask me.

Thank you,

Michael

I have been tasked to move our existing website from a locally hosted server to something like wix. I have joined the beta program and have created a preliminary site to validate wix feasibility. Paid membership is a MUST for this site. Without that capability, we will not be able to use wix. I am seeing conflicting information about this. I DID look at the YouTube video from computermdofgilbert and see the workaround but as he admits, it is flawed and not a viable solution. Yet I see mention that the paid membership feature is now available in beta. Can someone please direct me to additional info on where/how to set this up?

This is the very reason I am attempting to code the integration with Stripe’s Subscription APIs.

I need this feature too! We are an association and paid membership is the core of our business. We have been working with Wufoo and Zoho on Wix, but it’s a very heavy and complicated work around. I really hope Wix will add that option soon!

Any update on this?

I’ve been having a nightmare of a time trying to get this paid membership feature on my wix site. I’ve had to build workaround upon workaround and it’s getting crazy. I’ve seen computermdofgilbert’s YT video and I agree that it’s a very clunky solution.

Bottom line - I think it would be in Wix’s best interest to quickly roll out a streamlined paid membership option for its users. Honestly, I LOVE using Wix, but I’ve contemplated jumping ship to Squarespace (they don’t offer it either so that was a no-go) or Wordpress (I’d rather not because it’s not as user-friendly as Wix).

I’m shocked that they don’t offer this feature already, especially because some of their closest competitors don’t either - so it would give them an advantage.

Overall, I’m very disappointed that I’ve put all this work into my site and I can’t create this paid membership capability. Wix’s customer service is always polite and they try their best, but I’ve also heard 4 different “workarounds” each with it’s own problems and a lot of the time I was the one to point out why it wouldn’t work.

**ALL THAT BEING SAID, has anyone used WixCode to create a paid membership that’s seamless with unique user profiles and an option for a member-based forum all in one place? I’m not a coder/programmer but I’m all ears for the best solution that may be out there - even if I have to try to wrestle with code to get there.

I am also STUCK in building my website with this exact same need/issue. I have looked into computermdofgilbert’s solution and appreciate his workaround, but what is the status of Wix’s solution? IF WIX does not have a paid membership feature in development, then i need to know what solution is recommended currently?

I spoke with a developer yesterday who said this is high on their priority for implementing but he said he doesn’t have a timeline unfortunately. He asked me to participate in the beta test for the paid membership feature once it’s closer to completion so I don’t know if that means they’re close or not. I can’t wait until it’s ready to start using a workaround unfortunately.

The workaround I’m probably going to use is to have members create a profile using the Wix forum feature (on a members only page) and have them pay for access to my yoga instructional videos via the Wix Video app. Fortunately for me, that’s going to work for now but I am so disappointed that this is my only option. It’s going to get so messy to transfer customers once the new solution is implemented. Other workarounds I’ve heard are to use the Form Builder + app or a custom PayPal button but they’re still not ideal because it leads potential customers on a wild goose chase and that’s never good. Good luck.

If I knew Wix didn’t have this feature I probably would have gone with a different website builder, to be quite honest.

walkingbillboards.al - have you figured out a way to code this feature?

I totally agree with all of the comments here. I have been working on a Paid Membership site for one of my clients using the workaround provided by ComputerMDofGilbert. I appreciate his hard work and effort but like everyone else, this solution is clunky and difficult to manage at best. I too have been told to build it in WordPress but I really like developing and creating in the Wix environment.

I would welcome the opportunity to be a BETA tester for this solution since my clients are getting anxious for a solution soon. I will run the risk of losing them if I cannot come up with an easy user experience and a secure transaction procedure for them.

DITTO on all accounts!

Hey Marine! Coding between Zoho and Wix Code is in the works by me.

Andreas,

Would you please explain your process of using Zoho and Wix Code?

Thank you,

Michael Strauch

I’m coming to find that I have two options here - I have no idea if/when Wix is going to roll out this feature and I am pretty desperate to get my paid membership live. 1) I’ve been looking into jumping ship over to Wordpress and learning how to use that and creating a whole new site (basically wasting all the money and time I’ve spent building my Wix site up until this point) or 2) Paying someone who has experience coding this feature using Wix Code (and hopefully someone who can do it fast).

I inquired about this on the Wix Arena but I haven’t recieved any answers from people saying they indeed have experience with Wix Code - and honestly, I’m not willing to pay more money to someone who doesn’t have experience. I know people need to learn it but I don’t have time at this point to go with someone inexperienced.

Can anyone on this forum help me out? I’m so torn here - I’ve been so frustrated with all these workarounds and Wix Code which is supposed to be a go-between (the everyday gal like myself and an experienced programmer) but I’m finding Wix Code is a lot more complicated than I thought - esp to do something like a paid membership where APIs are involved. I honestly could probably take 2 all-nighters and create a Wordpress site, but I’m disappointed I’ve gotten to that point of considering that because I love how user friendly Wix is…

Please, any help or advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Chrissy,

I just happen to be one of the Wix Design Experts on the Wix Arena and I am familiar with using Wix Code, but I am still working on a solution for the paid membership. I am now going to look into just hard-coding it and use that code snippet I create.

I would be more than happy to discuss what you are looking to accomplish.

Like I said, I run a Wix web design agency. Someone on my team may be able to look into accomplishing this as well.

Thank you,

Michael Strauch

Michael,

Thanks for addressing my concerns! I know this may be a hard question to answer but do you happen to have an idea of when you may have a working solution for paid membership? I know these things take a lot of time, especially to get them done right, but I really don’t have a ton of time to wait, unfortunately. I’m not sure if that’s unique to me or others on this forum are struggling to wait for a solution.

Thanks so much for your hard work, I really appreciate the work you’ve done on your YouTube tutorials! In the meantime, I’m going to be exploring the idea of what I may be able to accomplish quickly on Wordpress to see if that’s at all an option for me.

Chrissy
