Replacing png images with videos

Hello,

I have a Wix website and with one page that has a number of photographic images of my work. Wondering if I can replace them with videos that are on loops and keep playing when you’re on that page? Anotherwords, they don’t have to click on a Play button to get them to play. They just keep playing automatically all simultaneously when you’re on that page. Any assistance with this would be appreciated!

Hi, Cosmas_Demetriou !!

It is probably possible.
However, depending on the number, it might place a heavy load on the site.

Thank you onemoretime! How do we know what a “heavy load” would be? Is there a rule of thumb for how much of a load a page can take?

The extent of the burden may depend on the environment of the users accessing your site. For instance, you can see a significant difference in how the load is perceived between someone browsing your site on a device from several decades ago and someone using the latest one. The network environment also plays a role. Therefore, it’s difficult to say for certain. That said, I think it’s fine to have videos autoplay as part of the design. Additionally, if you ensure that only the videos within the visible area of the screen are played, you might be able to reduce the load a bit.

However, not everyone browses web pages on the latest devices, so ideally, you should aim for a site that runs smoothly even on minimal specs. Ultimately, a site that automatically plays multiple videos and becomes heavy will likely be less preferred than a lightweight site. Since Wix allows you to easily add almost anything to your pages, it can inadvertently lead to a heavy site. However, the site’s responsiveness is an essential factor above all else. In fact, the reason this community forum has such a simple design is likely due to this consideration.

But we won’t know the truth until we try it out, so I think it’s a good challenge to give it a go and see for yourself! :+1:

You can use a pro gallery and use the settings to auto play.

I don’t recommend you design it this way as it doesn’t really look good, your site won’t have accessibility compliance, it will slow down the page drastically—— not even Youtube does this.
