Earlier this year Wix released the Velo package wix-data-sql. I absolutely love it, and the availability of this package is actually what convinced me to move more of my existing websites (which were using databases queried with SQL) to Wix. Fellow developers I spoke to are also very excited about it.
After the initial release of the package I however learned that its functionality is still rather limited to what I used to be able to do in SQL. I was hoping support for more operators (like the important GROUP BY or AS) would be added, along with the ability to chain multiple SELECT queries (e.g. select column + select count other column in one go).
Now that version 1.10 is released it seems that no new operators or much functionalty has been added yet. Therefore I am very curious about the roadmap for wix-data-sql. I think having a bit more functionality available would be a game changer for more experienced developers!
Could someone working at Wix share what is in the pipeline for this package?
Many thanks!
Hi Chris, as a member of the team who worked on this Velo package, let me just start with saying a huge THANKS for the feedback, we are working really hard for you and others to gain value from Velo Packages and its so satisfying to hear we’re on the right direction.
Sure there’s more work to be done, and improvements must take place in order for this package to be more dynamic and less limited as you said, and by that even greater.
We are currently planning the next packages updates and we’ll take your feedback into considerations, so I can’t provide a specific date at the moment.
Finally, we’d appreciate discussing this further on a call, if you are willing to do that, in order to better understand the need and prioritize accordingly - our community manager and product team are watchers on this thread and will contact you to set this up if you’re up for it.
Thanks again and take care.
Thanks for your quick reply! And you are very welcome, I think you guys did a great job on this package and many other recent developments. I am happy to hear that more package updates are being planned and am certainly willing to discuss this further outside of this thread. If possible I do prefer a chat or exchange of feedback via the mail instead of a call. I realize that this is a bit less interactive, but since English is not my native language it would give me some more time to think about my answers =).
