Is it possible to retrieve the actual file data from a PDF so that I might make a collection of PDFs searchable?
Any thoughts are most appreciated!

Unfortunately it is not possible using Wix Code only.
But, you can use wix code to make web requests, so I suggest to start by looking for an API that might help.
If you find one that exposes a REST API, we will help you get it working.
