Strip image size

Hi all.

Quick question:
I have a strip on my home page with an image for the background.
I understand i can make it the height i want.

In regards to the width - If i am creating an image in Photoshop for the strip: What is a recommended image size width if i want full width of the screen?
As monster sizes vary, im not sure how wide to make it.
