I would love to have the order of items in the Layouter match the order of items in the Layers panel. If I drag an item up in the order in the Layers panel, it should be the same as if I drag the item up in the editor screen. (When the orders are not in sync, I have to do a lot of clicking to find the right item.) Additionally, if I have a really tall item, that is taller than the view screen, I cannot drag the item to a different position in the Layouter. Thirdly, when I do drag the items in the editor view to a new position, because of where the cursor lands during dragging it shifts all of my content over and gives it a left-margin, which means I have to go through all the content pieces and resize them again every time I change the order of the Layouter.
Thanks for your consideration,
Pete
Hi @petekrueger
Roni here, from the Editor X Product team.
Tnx for your feedback! What you’re asking for makes a lot of sense.
I have some good news, and some better news.
The good news is that we plan to do basically exactly what you are describing here, and more. We are currently looking into the experience of arranging the items in the Layouter, in the aim of streamlining the process and making it easy and clear, whether from the stage or from the Layers panel. No ETA just yet, but we’re on it.
As for the better news - very very soon you will be able to see the first issue you mention already working as you expect it, in production. Items order in the layers panel will reflect the order you see on stage.
About the last thing you mention - the shifting of the content - could you perhaps create a screen recording of what you describe and send it over? I’m not so sure what it is you’re experiencing there, and would like to better understand, so I can see what we can do about this.
Hope this helps, and waiting to hear back from you!
Awesome! Thanks! Exciting news! I’ll try to do a screen recording this afternoon, or if not possible, tomorrow.
I was off. The resizing happens when dragging within a Stack (vs the Layouter). Attaching a video of the Stack resizing.
@petekrueger thanks for the video.
Got it. Yes, you are correct, this does happen, and is definitely an issue. I was aware of the docking being reset as you drag (in general and in a stack), but for an element docked to both sides, in a stack, this will also mean it losing its width.
We have plans to tackle the larger problem here of the docking resetting. I will bring this case into account to make sure we address this as well.
Thank you again for the help!
