I have created a text slideshow and want the slides to change by clicking a button outside of the slideshow… how can I make this happen?

What are you trying to achieve:
I almost want a menu of items, when clicked the content underneath changes by fading into different text.
What have you already tried:
I have tried buttons/anchors but to transition takes you to the top of the page instead of remaining on the section and smoothly transitioning to the relevant text.
