Using EXIF/IPTC data to populate image info

Currently the image upload doesn’t populate image title and description from the image’s IPTC or EXIF data even if the image has it. Which means having to put TITLE and DESCRIPTION fields for each image manually if required. It’s rather cumbersome and tedious having to do this AGAIN in the WIX interface after having done it in user’s image processor (eg. Lightroom ) and exported images with all metadata.

Please enable reading and populating TITLE and DESCRIPTION fields for images while uploading to media manager, even database image and media gallery fields.

Also, it would be nice feature to have if it was possible to select multiple images in media manager and set TITLE and DESCRIPTION text for multiple images.

Hello,

I need the same thing. But maybe I can help you. I found a plugin for Lightroom on https://www.photographers-toolbox.com/products/jbeardsworth/listview/ (they got many other good plugin BTW). With it you can export your chosen Lightroom metadata on a CSV on excel or numbers. Then in your database on wix you import this .csv list and connect it with your gallery or album that got the same number of images as you got lines on your .csv. Now the point is. It’s not working yet for me but the problem comes from wix (the title and descriptions don’t display with my images. For the rest my list is properly imported in my database). Maybe you can give it a try.

If you try could you let me know how it went ?

Hi Leo,

That certainly seems interesting and I had thought about something similar kind of solution myself (generate CSV of EXIF data locally and then import it in database. But it was too much manual work and unless I’m planning to maintain two databases and specifically for gallery albums, it didn’t seem worth my time.

Besides, I’m using gallery that’s generated through database and the images are linked through single record in each album. So it’s already a kind of nightmare to establish linkage between images and corresponding EXIF data externally.

Yep I decided to do it that way too. But I noticed another problem. I have to drag/drop images one at a time in my sandbox database. Did you find any way to do it faster ?

Hi, I would need exactly the same thing.
In my case, I have a “Media Gallery” field in a collection that contains some destinations.
My idea was to implement a hook using a nodejs package like iptc-reader or other and populate the file info title and description each time an item is updated in the collection (and why not the keywords of the file which could be mapped to the tags which have potentially been specified in lightroom or other editor).
At least I have to request for such a node package being available in wix.
I only checked I could update any collection item using a hook, as expected.
But I don’t really know if I will be able to access the file image in the way it would be required by the node package to extract iptc data…
What do you think?

I really want this capability. It seems like a pretty basic and very important feature for a Photography web site to allow for the displaying of selected EXIF data with the image, especially the Title and Description fields and exposure data embedded with the picture. To have to post that data manually for each photo I upload is a major shortcoming in WIX. Please fix this.

I hope a solution will be found to this.

I can help on specification concerning EXIF and IPTC and their display in the LightBox

If there is a way to do this, that’s great. But I am a newbe to Wix and website development, so it needs to be easy. That’s what Wix is supposed to be all about.

Can we take this discussion offline? I have many questions I am hoping you can answer, or point me to someone that can. If there’s not a simple solution, I’m about to pull the plug on Wix.
