Hello all,
I am an Engineering Grad and wanted to showcase my projects and create a portfolio website while implementing a projects blog. A system to track smaller projects, to watch them grow over time. Track resources and get feedback from communities.
Not sure if using Wix for this is ideal or if I should use something else like Notion.
Any tips on design/layout/UX UI would be great too. My goal would be the following:
Home
Brief Bio/Experience
Portfolio
Projects (Blog)
- New Projects list
- Project A
- Project B
- Project C
Notes (Blog)
Contact
Questions:
- Blog Project Posts sending weekly/monthly updates to subscribers.
- Blog my Projects, and updates with resources and documentation (possibly behind password). Is there a way to set up a password system to restrict not everything but a chunk of it? Is it reliable?
- Blog system that is quick to access and use. Not fiddling with Wix Studio (i.e. “Edit Website” → “Manage Posts” → “New Posts”) . Is there a Markdown API system I could use or a button on the website I could implement?
- Is there a way to have a “New/Upcoming Projects” Brainstorming section with upvotes, feedback/comments and resources/attachments sections underneath? Like a bucket system for non-dedicated/non-started Projects?
Product:
Wix Studio
What are you trying to achieve:
I’m trying to setup a system where I could easily provide updates and collect feedback from like minded peers while building projects. Is there an easy way to do this? I don’t enjoy fiddling with the WixStudio part due to the chunkiness. Is there an API that I could implement to convert a Markdown file to a blog post or comment in a feedback section?
I don’t know if I want to incorporate a “Notes (Blog)” section as a separate thing of if I could differentiate between the two in the same Blog. Something to track down events, conferences, reflections and lecture notes.
I would like to incorporate a Project List that tracks new projects that don’t yet have a dedicated “post” and maybe has a vote counter next to them. Would this be possible? Ideally, I’d like an ongoing project list and the one that has the most interaction, feedback, comments, resources, would be worked on next.
What have you already tried:
I’ve implemented a subscription feature and tested it with a spare email. However, still didn’t receive an update or an initial email about my Blog posts.
Additional information:
Any layout, design advice would be helpful! I’m more of a back-end engineer so UX/UI is still on my learning table. I’d like this site to be a foundation or catchall for my Engineering Expertise and 3-5 Portfolio projects but implement this Projects area where I could add on to it periodically and document my new methods, problems, solutions, and have YT links etc.
This plus a feedback/commenting system would be ideal so when I build a community, they could also provide links and resources to APIs, packages, etc. before I even start building.
