Why Are Subcategories Missing After Migrating to Wix Category Pages?

Hi everyone,

After migrating my Wix Store to the new Category Pages system, I noticed that in some Wix Store versions I can no longer add subcategories under product categories.

Is this a limitation of certain Wix Store versions, or am I missing a setting/configuration step? Has anyone experienced this issue after migration?

Any help or clarification would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you’re on the new catalog, then you should be able to create subcategories - Wix Stores: Creating Product Categories | Help Center | Wix.com - unless I am misunderstanding :sweat_smile:

Hi, here’s how my category page looks right now. As you can see in the attachment, there’s no option to add a subcategory.

That’s why I was wondering if this could be related to the migration or a different Wix Stores setup/version.

Ahhh okay - this is still the V1 Catalog which doesn’t support subcategories.

In recent months, there’s been 2 major updates for Stores:

  • The introduction of Catalog V3 on new sites
  • The new product storefront for Studio sites

At the moment, it’s not possible to update a site from the V1 catalog to V3, although the team is aware and working towards making this available

So, if I want subcategory support, what would be the recommended approach? Would I need to remove the current store and reinstall Wix Stores to get Catalog V3?

Also, if I do that, will all my existing products and store data be deleted from the site, or is there another way to upgrade without rebuilding everything from scratch?

The only way to get the new catalog at the moment is to start a new site - uninstalling and reinstalling won’t change the catalog you’re on.

I don’t know your specific situation, but sometimes this approach gives the opportunity to review the site, figure out what’s working, what cacn be improved etc :thinking:
