why do i have to go to a third party register to get my CF, TK, ML, NL, GA, and NL, and why are some domain extensions available for free with freenom, and also why do domains cost thousands of dollars when they have been used before?
If someone has purchased a domain it’s theirs. Many domain providers will let you know it is available but at a price from the seller. This was really popular in the early days of the internet - people were running and grabbing .com domains before large corporations could register them. People would snag them first and then sell them to the company for a ridiculously high price.
no, that wasn’t my question… my question is why are certain domain extensions restricted according to wix in this help article:
The following restrictions apply:
-
Users from OFAC restricted and sanctioned countries cannot access any of Wix’s services including Wix sites.
-
It is not possible to view sites created using the Wix platform from OFAC restricted countries.
-
You cannot connect to Wix via pointing or name servers domains with the following extensions:
-
Cuba (.cu)
-
Iran (.ir)
-
Iran .xn–mgba3a4f16a (.ایران)
-
North Korea (.kp)
-
Syria (.sy)
-
Syria .xn–ogbpf8fl (.سورية)
-
Libya (.ly)
does this mean that its against wixs termsof service to register domains that are country level like TK, NL, IN, because i bought domains that our country level no problem with freenom
and is this why COM is registered more than any other domain
Restrictions are made based on various sanctions.

@stevenjose how does the government have anything to do with domain extensions is my new question… its just a few letters put together
